In the Fall of ’64…nineteen not eighteen…two loving parents brought home an amazing, beautiful, and brilliant new born baby boy from the hospital. Meanwhile in Houston, Allan and Patsy brought home little John Allan. He lived in a great neighborhood for kids where he grew up and went to school. When he was 15, his parents took him on a trip to New York where he saw “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Broadway. It was then that John decided that acting and performing was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
After graduating from The University of the South (Sewanee), John began his career as an actor. His first professional job was at the famous Comedy Workshop in Houston, TX. There he performed sketch and improvisational comedy. It was also there where John made a new friend, Mike Vance. Little did John know what a pivotal role they would play in each other’s lives. Over the years John appeared in many movies, commercials, industrial videos and has done gazillions of voice overs. But the most fun John has had performing is with his pal Mike. They started a new sketch comedy and improv group called What Comedy Theatre. From there they formed the PC Cowboys…a musical comedy act. They worked on other projects. too, like anime. Then one day, John told Mike about an idea he had for a children’s book. They met and met and talked and talked. Then they met and met and wrote and wrote. Finally Zeke Gets Glasses was made. After that, they agreed that they should create a whole series of books. And that is how Jungleburgh Children’s Reading Community came to be. It should also be said that in all that time, John also got married and started a family. He lives with his wife Dena and three children: Olivia, Josh, and Tara. And as proud of Jungleburgh as John is, of all the movies and commercials and projects he has worked on, one thing is for certain: John’s family is the best thing he ever helped make. |
